Arrival in Cappadocia — Devrent, Avanos and the Göreme Viewpoint

Arrival

We meet you at Kayseri or Nevşehir airport and head for Göreme: 60–80 km by road depending on the terminal. In the afternoon we take a first look at the landscape: the Göreme valley viewpoint in the low light, Devrent Valley, where erosion has carved shapes of camels and seals, and Avanos, on the banks of the Kızılırmak, the longest river in Türkiye, where a workshop still shapes red clay on the wheel as it has for centuries. Dinner at the hotel.
Accommodation: planned hotel in Cappadocia.

Red Tour — Göreme Open-Air Museum, Uçhisar and Paşabağ

If you have booked the balloon, you take off at sunrise and are back at the hotel in time for breakfast. Then the Red Tour begins: the panorama from the foot of Uçhisar Castle, the highest point in the region, and the Göreme Open-Air Museum, with its rock-cut chapels and 10th-century frescoes. We continue through Love Valley and the triple-capped fairy chimneys of Paşabağ, and finish at a semi-precious stone workshop where they carve the local onyx. Today's route: about 90 km. Dinner at the hotel; in the evening, an optional Turkish Night.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Green Tour and Departure — Kaymaklı, Ihlara Valley and Selime

Departure

The Green Tour heads south. We descend into Kaymaklı Underground City, an eight-level refuge with stables, cellars and a church, and continue to the Ihlara Valley: a 4 km walk along the floor of the canyon, beside the Melendiz stream and among hermitages carved into the rock face. After lunch we visit Selime Monastery, carved floor by floor into the rock, and stop at Pigeon Valley before dropping you at the airport in time for your flight. Today's route: about 180 km.
Meals included: breakfast and lunch.

Important notes

General

Travel documents

Each traveller is responsible for having a passport valid for at least 150 days from the date of entry into Türkiye, and any visa required. Visa rules depend on your nationality: some passport holders can visit visa-free for short tourist stays, while others need an e-Visa, which takes a few minutes to get online. Please check the requirements for your nationality on the official website, www.evisa.gov.tr, before you travel.

The region's climate

Cappadocia is a plateau more than 1,000 metres above sea level: mornings are cool even in midsummer, and from December to March there may be snow — which is also when the landscape is at its most photogenic. The practical choice all year round is to dress in layers and bring a windproof jacket for the mornings.

Activities

Balloon flight

Booked separately, it takes off at around 05:00 on the morning of day 2, the only really early start of the programme. The Turkish civil aviation authority cancels flights because of wind or fog, especially from November to March; if that happens, you get a full refund. In summer it is best to book it weeks in advance because it sells out.

Pace of the trip and footwear

Day 3 includes a 4 km walk along the floor of the Ihlara Valley, with about 380 steps down at the start, and the visit to Kaymaklı goes through low, narrow passages: you need closed shoes with a proper sole, and anyone who struggles with confined spaces should tell us the day before so we can arrange an alternative above ground.

Frequently asked questions

What's included in Classic Cappadocia 3 Days?

Classic Cappadocia 3 Days includes: 2 nights at the planned hotel in Cappadocia on half board (breakfast and dinner at the hotel); 2 lunches at local restaurants, on the Red Tour and Green Tour days; Airport–hotel–airport transfers (Kayseri or Nevşehir); Private air-conditioned vehicle on all three days; Licensed English-speaking guide throughout the tour; Entrance tickets and visits: Göreme Open-Air Museum, Paşabağ, Kaymaklı Underground City, Ihlara Valley and Selime Monastery. Anything not included is listed just as clearly in the "What's included" section of this page.

Do I need to speak Turkish for this trip?

No. Your guide, Sinan, speaks fluent English and is with you throughout the trip. He takes care of all the arrangements, translations, bookings and negotiations for you.

Can I customise Classic Cappadocia 3 Days?

Yes. Classic Cappadocia 3 Days is a private tour, so this 3-day itinerary is flexible: you can change stops, add extra days, swap hotels or adjust the pace of the trip. Message me with your preferences and we'll design your tailor-made trip, with no extra charge for the planning.

When is the best time to visit Cappadocia?

Türkiye can be visited all year round. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) bring pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer is ideal for the coast, and winter has its own charm in Cappadocia, with snow-covered landscapes.

Why can't I see a price on this page?

Because this is a private tour and its price depends on your dates, how many of you are travelling, the hotel category and the visits you want to include. I'd rather work it out by hand and send you a real quote, with everything itemised, than show you a "from" price that ends up looking nothing like what you pay. Request it with the quote form on this page and you'll have it within 24 hours.

How do booking and payment work?

Once you request a quote, you receive a private link with the final price and the full itinerary, with no obligation. To confirm, you pay a 30% deposit. The balance is paid 31 days before departure, by bank transfer or card (+3% surcharge). If you cancel more than 90 days before departure, only the handling fee and any penalties charged for flights and services already issued are retained; closer to departure, the cancellation policy scale applies, the same one you'll see in your quote.
