Türkiye in 10 days is the ideal amount of time to cover the country’s four essential destinations: Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Ephesus. Ten days gives you room to enjoy each place without rushing and really get under its skin.
Day-by-day itinerary: Türkiye in 10 days
Days 1–3: Istanbul
Three full days to explore Istanbul: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace, the Grand Bazaar, a Bosphorus cruise, the neighbourhoods of Balat and Kadıköy on the Asian side, and Galata Tower with its panoramic views.
Day 4: Fly to Cappadocia
Morning flight to Kayseri. Transfer and a free afternoon to explore Göreme, walk through Pigeon Valley and watch the sunset from Uçhisar Castle.
Days 5–6: Cappadocia
Cappadocia deserves two full days: a hot-air balloon flight at sunrise, the Göreme Open-Air Museum, Derinkuyu Underground City, Ihlara Valley, a pottery workshop in Avanos and Rose Valley.
Day 7: Cappadocia → Pamukkale
A flight to Denizli or a long road transfer with stops along the way. You reach Pamukkale in the late afternoon, in time to enjoy the terraces at sunset, when the light is magical and there are fewer people.
Day 8: Pamukkale and Hierapolis
A full morning on the travertine terraces, Cleopatra’s Pool (a swim in thermal water among Roman columns) and a walk through the ruins of Hierapolis: the theatre, the necropolis and the Temple of Apollo.
Day 9: Ephesus
Transfer to Ephesus (3 h). Visit the ancient city: the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, the Terrace Houses, the Temple of Artemis and the House of the Virgin Mary. Lunch in the village of Şirince, famous for its fruit wines.
Day 10: Back to Istanbul
Fly from Izmir to Istanbul and connect with your flight home. If you have time, stop at the Spice Bazaar for some last-minute shopping.
Transport and logistics
Domestic flights are the best option: Istanbul → Cappadocia (1 h 15 min), Cappadocia → Denizli (flight or road), Izmir → Istanbul (1 h). On an organised tour, all the transport is coordinated for you.
Budget for 10 days
Between €1,000 and €2,000 per person at the time of writing (2026), excluding international flights but including hotels, meals, entrance tickets and domestic transport. A 10-day private tour includes everything, with an English-speaking guide.
An alternative 10-day route: Konya and the Turquoise Coast
Ten days also allow for a truly complete trip around Türkiye: imperial history in Istanbul, lunar landscapes in Cappadocia, Sufi spirituality in Konya, natural wonders in Pamukkale, Greco-Roman ruins at Ephesus and the spectacular Turquoise Coast.
Days 1–3 — Istanbul
Day 1: Sultanahmet — Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern and the Hippodrome. A stroll through Gülhane Park with views of the Golden Horn.
Day 2: Topkapı Palace (with the Harem). Afternoon in the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar. Süleymaniye Mosque at sunset.
Day 3: Bosphorus cruise. The neighbourhoods of Balat and Fener (colourful streets, the Ecumenical Patriarchate). Cross to the Asian side: Kadıköy, its fish market and the Moda neighbourhood. Farewell dinner in a meyhane with rakı and live music.
Days 4–5 — Cappadocia
Day 4: Fly to Kayseri. Göreme, Monks Valley, Uçhisar Castle and pottery in Avanos.
Day 5: Sunrise balloon flight. Derinkuyu Underground City. Love Valley and Pigeon Valley. Dinner in a cave restaurant with pottery kebab.
Day 6 — Konya
Drive to Konya. The Mevlana Museum and the Alaeddin Mosque. If it’s a Saturday, a sema (whirling dervish) ceremony.
Day 7 — Pamukkale
The travertine terraces, ancient Hierapolis and Cleopatra’s Pool.
Day 8 — Ephesus and the coast
Ephesus in full (the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, the Terrace Houses). The wine village of Şirince in the afternoon. Then on towards the Turquoise Coast.
Days 9–10 — The Turquoise Coast: Fethiye
Day 9: Fethiye’s Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliff, the ghost village of Kayaköy and a free afternoon at Ölüdeniz (the famous Blue Lagoon). Optional tandem paragliding from Mount Babadağ.
Day 10: Boat trip to the 12 Islands, with swimming stops in crystal-clear coves. Lunch on board. Flight back to Istanbul from Dalaman.
Why 10 days?
It’s the length I consider ideal for a first trip to Türkiye: you see the big three (Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale/Ephesus) and add the Turquoise Coast, which gives you a complete change of scenery. The pace is comfortable — neither exhausting nor monotonous.
