Day-by-day itinerary

1

Arrival in Istanbul

Arrival

You land in Istanbul, where your driver is waiting for the private transfer to your hotel in the historic district. The rest of the day is free to settle in properly: a stroll around Sultanahmet at dusk, when the monuments light up, is the best possible prologue. Tomorrow the journey begins, linking the country's great icons by air, without a single full day on the road.

Classic Istanbul — Flight to Cappadocia

Istanbul Cappadocia

One single day, the essence of two empires: the Roman Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque with its İznik tiles, Hagia Sophia — the 6th-century Byzantine masterpiece — Topkapı Palace with the Harem and the enigmatic Basilica Cistern. We finish at the Grand Bazaar, the most famous covered market in the world, before the transfer to the airport and the evening flight to Cappadocia (1 h 15). Dinner and overnight at the hotel, already among the fairy chimneys.

Flight: Istanbul (IST) → Kayseri (ASR) (Turkish Airlines)
Hotel: Standard hotel Cappadocia · Half board
Meals: Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
3

Cappadocia — The Green Tour

The panoramic side of Cappadocia: the Pigeon Valley viewpoint at the foot of Uçhisar, Kaymaklı Underground City — eight excavated levels; we visit the upper ones, and anyone who prefers can wait above ground — and Love Valley with its impossible rock formations. In the late afternoon, tea in a cave house with a local family: the Cappadocia you won't find on postcards. Dinner at the hotel.

Visits: Pigeon Valley (Güvercinlik), Kaymaklı Underground City, Love Valley (Aşk Vadisi), Visit to a family cave house (Cappadocia)
Hotel: Standard hotel Cappadocia · Half board
Meals: Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
4

Cappadocia — The Red Tour

The monumental heart: the Göreme Open-Air Museum and its rock-cut churches with Byzantine frescoes, the fairy chimneys of Paşabağ, Devrent Valley with its stone menagerie and Uçhisar Castle from its esplanade. In Avanos, on the banks of the Red River, a pottery workshop using the Hittite technique of the kick wheel. At sunrise, the star optional extra: a balloon flight over the valleys. Dinner at the hotel.

5

Flight to Izmir — Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary

Cappadocia Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary

Direct flight from Kayseri to Izmir — the advantage of this route: no going back to Istanbul — and a visit to Ephesus, the great Roman city of Asia Minor: the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre for 25,000 spectators and the marble streets once walked by St Paul. Then the House of the Virgin Mary, in a peaceful pine forest on Mount Bülbül. Dinner and overnight in the Kuşadası area.

Flight: Kayseri (ASR) → Izmir (ADB) (AJet (formerly AnadoluJet))
Hotel: Standard hotel Ephesus · Half board
Meals: Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
6

Pamukkale — Flight Back to Istanbul

Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary Istanbul

A three-hour drive to the "cotton castle": the white travertine terraces of Pamukkale and, above them, Hierapolis, the Roman spa city with its great necropolis and theatre. We enter through the upper gate to see everything on the way down, and anyone who wishes can take their shoes off and step into the pools. In the evening, flight from Denizli to Istanbul and transfer to the hotel.

Flight: Denizli (DNZ) → Istanbul (IST) (AJet (formerly AnadoluJet))
Hotel: Standard hotel Istanbul · Bed & breakfast
Meals: Breakfast · Lunch
7

The Bosphorus — Farewell

Departure

The morning of farewell, on the water: a cruise along the Bosphorus past Ottoman palaces, fortresses and wooden mansions, with Europe on one side and Asia on the other. A last stop at the Spice Bazaar to fill your suitcase with saffron, Turkish delight and pomegranate tea. Transfer to the airport in good time, and the end of the trip.

Meals: Breakfast · Lunch

Important notes

Itinerary

The advantage of this route

Unlike the classic tour, you never backtrack here: the direct Kayseri → Izmir flight links Cappadocia with Ephesus without passing through Istanbul again, and the return flight leaves from Denizli after you have seen Pamukkale. Three flights, not one full day on the road. There is also a 5-day express version with just Istanbul and Cappadocia: we can quote it on request.

Flights

Domestic flight schedules

The Kayseri–Izmir route usually operates just one flight a day: we confirm the times before finalising the dates and, if the flight leaves in the afternoon, we move Ephesus to the following morning without changing anything else.

Travel documents

Travel documents

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your return date. Many nationalities do not need a visa, and others can get one online (e-Visa) in minutes: we will confirm this when you book.

General

Mosque etiquette

Shoulders and knees covered, and a headscarf for women; these are lent at the entrance, but it is more comfortable to bring your own. You enter barefoot, so wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off.

Frequently asked questions

What's included in Türkiye by Air 7 Days?

Türkiye by Air 7 Days includes: Accommodation for 6 nights in centrally located standard hotels (breakfast in Istanbul; half board in Cappadocia and the Ephesus area); Lunches on sightseeing days (days 2 to 7); Private transfers and a private van with driver (days 2 to 7); Licensed English-speaking guide throughout the tour; Entrance tickets and visits: Hagia Sophia, Topkapı with the Harem, the Basilica Cistern, Kaymaklı, the Göreme Open-Air Museum, Paşabağ, Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary, Pamukkale-Hierapolis and a Bosphorus cruise; Three domestic flights with checked baggage: Istanbul → Cappadocia, Cappadocia → Izmir and Denizli → Istanbul; Pottery workshop in Avanos and tea in a family cave house; Booking coordination and 24-hour assistance in English. Anything not included is listed just as clearly in the "What's included" section of this page.

Do I need to speak Turkish for this trip?

No. Your guide, Sinan, speaks fluent English and is with you throughout the trip. He takes care of all the arrangements, translations, bookings and negotiations for you.

Can I customise Türkiye by Air 7 Days?

Yes. Türkiye by Air 7 Days is a private tour, so this 7-day itinerary is flexible: you can change stops, add extra days, swap hotels or adjust the pace of the trip. Message me with your preferences and we'll design your tailor-made trip, with no extra charge for the planning.

When is the best time to visit Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus and Pamukkale?

Türkiye can be visited all year round. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) bring pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer is ideal for the coast, and winter has its own charm in Cappadocia, with snow-covered landscapes.

Why can't I see a price on this page?

Because this is a private tour and its price depends on your dates, how many of you are travelling, the hotel category and the visits you want to include. I'd rather work it out by hand and send you a real quote, with everything itemised, than show you a "from" price that ends up looking nothing like what you pay. Request it with the quote form on this page and you'll have it within 24 hours.

How do booking and payment work?

Once you request a quote, you receive a private link with the final price and the full itinerary, with no obligation. To confirm, you pay a 30% deposit. The balance is paid 31 days before departure, by bank transfer or card (+3% surcharge). If you cancel more than 90 days before departure, only the handling fee and any penalties charged for flights and services already issued are retained; closer to departure, the cancellation policy scale applies, the same one you'll see in your quote.
